25 Finance App Keywords Ranked by Real Competition (2026 Data)
We measured 25 finance app keywords across 36,106 iOS Finance apps: how many apps win with each term, and how entrenched the winners are. See what's beatable.
If you’re picking finance app keywords in 2026, the short answer from our data: “trading”, “subscription tracker”, “debt”, “expense”, and “currency converter” are where real revenue meets beatable incumbents, while “credit”, “tax”, and “portfolio” are where new apps go to get crushed. That’s from a July 7, 2026 snapshot of 744,874 iOS apps analyzed (dataset updated daily), of which 36,106 sit in the Finance category.
Finance is worth the fight. 5,728 of those apps (15.9%) show some revenue signal, versus 7.4% store-wide — Finance monetizes at more than twice the store-wide rate. 1,979 apps (5.48%) clear an estimated $1,000/month, versus 3.2% store-wide. The median earner makes an estimated $536/month, and the top 10% of earners clear an estimated $8,464/month or more. People pay for apps that touch their money. The question is which corner of the category you can actually enter.
This page is the finance-specific companion to our general method guide, how to find low-competition app keywords — same philosophy, but with the numbers already pulled for one category.
The full table: 25 finance title keywords, measured
For each keyword, we counted iOS Finance apps with that word in their App Store title, how many of them clear an estimated $1,000/month (“winners”), the median estimated monthly revenue of those winners, and the median rating count of those winners — the incumbent mass you would need to displace.

Where the ratio favors you
The single number that matters most for a new app is winners divided by incumbent mass — proof that the keyword pays, against incumbents small enough to challenge.
“Trading” is the best ratio in the category. 26 apps clear an estimated $1k/month, and the median winner has just 1,474 ratings — the lowest bar of any keyword with 20+ winners. That’s a market of journals, simulators, and niche tools, not one owned by a single brokerage brand.
“Subscription tracker” and “debt” are small but soft. Five subscription-tracker winners at 1,643 median ratings; ten debt winners at 2,372, with a healthy $5,411 estimated median. Both are specific, painful problems where the incumbents are young apps rather than institutions.
“Expense” and “currency converter” are the utilitarian middle. Nineteen expense winners at 2,982 median ratings, seven currency-converter winners at 2,707. Modest medians (est. $3,214 and $3,643), but these are proven, boring markets where a genuinely better tool can still climb.
The traps: big numbers hiding brutal incumbents
“Credit” looks like the jackpot and isn’t. 206 winners — by far the most of any keyword — but the median winner carries 6,640 ratings, and the top of the results is a giant with roughly 7.6 million ratings. High winner counts describe who already won; they don’t lower the wall for app #207.
“Tax” is incumbent country. Only 7 winners, and they carry a median of 20,576 ratings — seasonal demand captured long ago by entrenched brands. The worst of both worlds: few slots, giant occupants.
“Portfolio” is a barbell. Two winners, both giants: 42,116 median ratings and an estimated $46,286/month median revenue. There’s essentially no middle class to join — you either become one of two whales or you don’t exist.
The B2B corners: few winners, big prizes
Two keywords break the consumer pattern. “Invoice” has only 3 winners, but their median estimated revenue is $30,214/month; “mortgage” has 10 winners at an estimated $25,661/month median. Professional buyers pay professional prices. The catch is matching incumbent mass (10,297 and 9,300 median ratings) — these are keywords for a team with distribution or a serious wedge, not a weekend project. “Payoff” (4 winners, est. $19,125/month median, 6,240 median ratings) is the smaller, slightly softer cousin.
The dead zones: low competition can mean no demand
“Net worth”, “salary”, and “bookkeeping” have zero apps clearing an estimated $1,000/month. Between them that’s 73 apps and not one meaningful earner. An empty keyword is not automatically an opportunity — sometimes the market has already voted. “Allowance” apps for kids are barely better: 12 apps, one winner, at an estimated $1,281/month. If you’re drawn to one of these, the burden of proof is on demand, and this table can’t supply it — a search-volume check can (see below).
How we measured this — and what it can’t tell you
- Keyword bucket = the word appears as a substring in the app’s App Store title, Finance category only. Crude but consistent: an expense app titled “Spendy” is missed; a “Budget & Expense” app counts twice.
- This is the supply side only. We measure who’s competing and who’s winning — we do not have App Store search-volume data, and neither does this table. Pair every candidate with a demand check in the free App Store keyword tool before committing title or subtitle space.
- Every revenue figure is a labeled model estimate. GetAppNiche generates it with a proprietary multi-signal model; nobody outside Apple has reported per-app revenue.
- Median ratings of winners = our incumbent-mass proxy. It answers “how big are the apps you’d need to displace”, not “how hard is it to rank”.
- Snapshot: July 7, 2026, from 744,874 iOS apps analyzed. iOS App Store only; the dataset is updated daily.
From keyword to build decision
- Pick 2–3 candidates from the table where winners exist and their median ratings are under ~3,000 — that’s the peer-fight zone.
- Check the demand side. Run each through the free keyword tool for difficulty and popularity. A keyword with winners but no search volume is monetizing through some other channel — which you may not have.
- Size the actual prize. Look up the top apps for your keyword in the free app revenue checker and see whether the estimated revenue is spread across several mid-sized apps (good) or pooled in one whale (bad).
- Read the winners’ reviews for the complaint that repeats. In finance, trust and one missing feature (“no CSV export”, “can’t split bills”) decide more downloads than design does.
