How many apps are released on Google Play every day?

Of the 2,607,536 Google Play apps GetAppNiche read on the US store (Sep 6–29, 2026), 417,606 were released January–June 2026 and are still listed: 2,307 a day. That is a floor for those months: it counts only apps still listed when GetAppNiche read them, so apps released and removed before then are missing.

Over the 12 complete months from July 2025 to June 2026, 644,817 apps were released that are still listed: 1,766 a day. Google publishes no official total of apps on Google Play and no count of the apps it removes; the per-day figures quoted elsewhere come from trackers, each with its own definition (compared below). Ours counts listings by the release date they show.

Read the climb with care: it is not a growth rate. Each month counts only the apps that were still listed in September 2026, so older months have had longer to lose apps; recent months are also boosted by the new-release lists GetAppNiche reads. And new apps reach our catalog weeks after release: 6.2% of July 2026 releases were first seen in the last 7 days alone, so July and later are left out until they fill in. Even for June 2026, 0.94% of its releases were first seen in the last 7 days before the snapshot.

What this means for you: if you launch this year, size the competition from the recent months, not from a yearly total: in May and June 2026, 2,616 to 3,013 new apps a day that are still listed arrived across all categories. The category table below shows how many of them landed in yours.

By year

How many apps are released on Google Play per year?

Of the 2,607,536 Google Play apps GetAppNiche read on the US store (Sep 6–29, 2026), 392,199 show a 2025 release date and are still listed: 1,074 a day. For 2024 the still-listed count is 252,887 (690 a day). Each year is a floor for the apps released that year, and older years are understated more, because their apps have had longer to be removed.

What this means for you: quote a year as "N apps released in that year are still listed", not as the number released, and don't read the rising bars as a growth curve. For planning a launch, the recent months above are the better guide.

What gets released

What kinds of apps are released on Google Play?

Of the 2,607,536 Google Play apps GetAppNiche read on the US store (Sep 6–29, 2026), 417,606 were released January–June 2026 and are still listed: at least 69,986 are games (16.76%), up to 81,998 (19.64%) if every Sports listing is a game, and 335,607 (80.36%) sit in the other app categories. Games are a larger share of these new releases than of all the apps read (at least 11.97%).

  • Games (16 game categories)
  • Non-game apps (31 app categories)
  • Sports (one label for an app and a game category)

Sports: 2.88% of the new releases and 2.45% of all apps read. 1 listing has no category and is left out of the bars. Google Play uses the label 'Sports' for both an app category and a game category; the data cannot split them, so game counts are a range. GetAppNiche, 2,607,536 Google Play apps on the US store, listings read Sep 6–29, 2026.

By category, Tools leads with 45,232 still-listed new apps (10.83%), then Education (33,727) and Business (31,370). Puzzle and Casual are the only game categories in the top 15. The last column shows how many of each category's new apps already have 10,000 or more installs.

Per day = still-listed releases ÷ 181 days, rounded down. "Now at 10,000 or more installs" is cumulative and counts still-listed apps only, about 2–9 months after release. "Sports" is one label shared by an app and a game category. All 48 category labels are in the Excel file below. GetAppNiche, 2,607,536 Google Play apps on the US store, listings read Sep 6–29, 2026.

What this means for you: a steady stream of new rivals is normal in the big categories: in Tools, 249 new apps a day came out in January–June 2026 and are still listed. What differs is how many of them get traction, which is the next question.

Traction

How many new Google Play apps break out?

Of the 2,607,536 Google Play apps GetAppNiche read on the US store (Sep 6–29, 2026), 417,606 were released January–June 2026 and are still listed, and 6.28% of them already show 10,000 or more installs. 17.50% show 1,000 or more, 1.69% show 100,000 or more and 0.31% show 1,000,000 or more. The median new app shows 50+ (50–99 installs), and only 4.33% show a star rating on the US listing so far.

How far the January–June 2026 releases have got: share at or above each install level

Share of the 417,606 apps released January–June 2026 and still listed whose install range is now at or above each level; each bar includes the ones to its right. Install counts are Google Play's public install ranges (the 'Downloads' label on the listing), lower bounds of worldwide lifetime installs. GetAppNiche, 2,607,536 Google Play apps on the US store, listings read Sep 6–29, 2026.

New games get there more often: 14.23% of the new games already show 10,000 or more installs, against 4.61% of new non-game apps. Among the 15 largest categories, Casual (21.41%), Entertainment (13.79%) and Puzzle (11.09%) lead; Food & Drink (0.97%) and Business (1.15%) trail.

These shares are cumulative (10,000 or more includes every higher range), measured about 2–9 months after release, and count only apps that were still listed when GetAppNiche read them. Apps removed before then are not in the base, so the shares describe survivors: room to grow in a category, not a chance of success.

What this means for you: most new apps stay small in their first months, and a category where a larger share of new apps reaches 10,000 installs is one where newcomers still find users. Use the share to shortlist categories, then look at the apps themselves; the Google Play categories page compares every category on crowding and breakouts.

Publishers

Who publishes the new apps on Google Play?

Of the 2,607,536 Google Play apps GetAppNiche read on the US store (Sep 6–29, 2026), 417,606 were released January–June 2026 and are still listed; 38,498 of them (9.22%) come from developer names that have 101 or more apps in the data, such as white-label and template publishers. The other 90.78% come from developer names with 100 apps or fewer.

The share varies widely by category. Among the 15 largest, it runs from 1.59% of new Puzzle apps to 48.77% of new Food & Drink apps, with Health & Fitness next at 22.09%. Food & Drink also has the lowest share of new apps at 10,000 or more installs among them (0.97%).

What this means for you: about nine in ten new apps come from developer names with 100 apps or fewer. Where bulk publishers are common, look past the raw count of new apps: a large part of it comes from a few publishers.

Pay model

How do new Google Play apps make money?

Of the 2,607,536 Google Play apps GetAppNiche read on the US store (Sep 6–29, 2026), 417,606 were released January–June 2026 and are still listed, and 97.36% of them are free to download: 76.84% show no in-app purchases label and 20.52% are free with Google's "In-app purchases" label. 11,006 (2.64%) charge an upfront price, and 32.13% carry the developer-declared "Contains ads" label. The in-app purchases label is on 21.08% of the free-to-download new apps.

How the Jan–Jun 2026 releases charge
  • Free (no in-app purchases label) 76.84%
  • Free with in-app purchases 20.52%
  • Paid upfront 2.64%

Prices are US$ on the US storefront. GetAppNiche, 2,607,536 Google Play apps on the US store, listings read Sep 6–29, 2026.

What this means for you: starting free is the norm; only 2.64% of new apps charge upfront. For how the whole catalog charges, by category and by app size, see free vs paid Android apps.

Other counts

Why do sources give different numbers for new Google Play apps?

Because they count different things. AppBrain counts apps launched and removed each month; 42matters reports new apps per day. Testers Community and GetAppNiche count listings that were still visible when read, by the release date on the listing, so an app removed before then is missing. Store scope (one storefront or worldwide), the period and how fast each tracker finds new apps differ too. Because the definitions differ, a still-listed count can even come out higher than another tracker's launch count.

New Google Play apps: what each source counts (as dated on each page, checked September 30, 2026)
Source What it counts Launches Still listed, by release date Date on the page
AppBrain Apps launched and apps removed, per month (its page shows the latest month) August 2026: about 61,500 launched and 37,500 removed (net +24,000) — Last updated Sep 29, 2026
42matters New apps, which its page calls released, published or added; the averaging period is not stated 1,750 a day on average — Sep 30, 2026
Testers Community Listings it could still see, by release date: 499,548 dated January 1–August 25, 2026 — About 2,100 a day in 2026 Study dated Sep 16, 2026
GetAppNiche (this page) Apps still listed on the US store, by the release date on the listing; months still filling in are left out — 2,307 a day in January–June 2026 (417,606 apps); 1,766 a day over July 2025–June 2026 Listings read Sep 6–29, 2026

Each figure is the source's own, with the date its page shows. Sources are named, not linked. Launch counts and still-listed counts measure different things and are not averaged.

Round figures such as 1,249, 1,205, 2,442 or 3,000+ apps a day also circulate on many sites without a date or a published method.

What this means for you: quote a figure with its definition and date, for example: 2,307 new apps a day released January–June 2026 and still listed on the US store (GetAppNiche, September 2026).

What this means for you: if your personal developer account is new, plan at least 14 days of closed testing with 12 or more testers before your first production release, and keep in mind that Google does not allow apps with only limited functionality and content.

FAQ

New Google Play apps: quick answers

How many apps are released on Google Play every day?

Of the 2,607,536 Google Play apps GetAppNiche read on the US store (Sep 6–29, 2026), 417,606 were released between January 1 and June 30, 2026 and are still listed: 2,307 a day. Over the 12 complete months from July 2025 to June 2026, 644,817 released apps are still listed: 1,766 a day. Both are floors: they count only apps still listed when GetAppNiche read them, so apps released and removed before then are missing, and months after June 2026 are still filling in.

How many new apps are added to Google Play each month?

Of the 2,607,536 Google Play apps GetAppNiche read on the US store (Sep 6–29, 2026), 50,829 were released in January 2026 and are still listed, and 90,402 in June 2026; the six months January–June 2026 together hold 417,606 still-listed releases, 69,601 a month. Across the 22 complete months from September 2024 to June 2026, the still-listed count per month ranges from 21,241 (September 2024) to 90,402 (June 2026). Months after June 2026 are left out because new apps reach GetAppNiche's catalog weeks after release.

How many apps were released on Google Play in 2025?

Of the 2,607,536 Google Play apps GetAppNiche read on the US store (Sep 6–29, 2026), 392,199 show a 2025 release date and are still listed: 1,074 a day. For 2024 the still-listed count is 252,887 (690 a day). These count only apps still listed when GetAppNiche read them: apps released in those years and removed before then are missing, so each figure is a floor for its year, and the older the year, the more it is understated.

How many new Google Play apps reach 10,000 installs?

Of the 2,607,536 Google Play apps GetAppNiche read on the US store (Sep 6–29, 2026), 417,606 were released January–June 2026 and are still listed. 6.28% of them already show 10,000 or more installs, 17.50% show 1,000 or more and 0.31% show 1,000,000 or more; the median one shows 50+ (50–99 installs). These apps are survivors measured about 2–9 months after release, so read the share as room to grow, not as a chance of success.

How many apps does Google block or remove from Google Play?

Google says it stopped more than 1.75 million policy-violating apps from being published on Google Play in 2025 and banned more than 80,000 developer accounts (Google's 2025 safety recap, February 19, 2026). It publishes no count of the listed apps it removes. Trackers count removals themselves: AppBrain, for example, counted about 37,500 apps removed in August 2026 (page last updated Sep 29, 2026).

Why do sources give different numbers for new Google Play apps?

Because they count different things. AppBrain counts apps launched and removed each month (about 61,500 launched in August 2026); 42matters reports 1,750 new apps a day on average without stating the period (Sep 30, 2026). Testers Community (about 2,100 a day in 2026) and GetAppNiche (2,307 a day in January–June 2026) count listings still visible when read, by release date. Store scope, periods and how fast each tracker finds new apps differ too, so the figures cannot be averaged or read as one series.

How long does it take to publish a first app on Google Play?

If your personal developer account was created after November 13, 2023, Google Play requires a closed test with at least 12 testers who stay opted in for 14 consecutive days before the app can go to production; testers who opt out early don't count. After the test you apply for production access in Play Console and answer questions about the app and its testing (Play Console Help, "App testing requirements for new personal developer accounts"). Plan at least two weeks before your first production release.
